Vipingo
The Swahili Coast race offers participants the opportunity to explore the enchanting Kenyan coast. This race is characterized by fast gravel roads with stunning views of the Indian ocean. The cooling ocean breeze allows participants to navigate through farm lands and palm tree lined coastal trails. The coastal setting provides a breezy, and fun course, creating an interesting race experience for participants accustomed to the highlands. The Vipingo race, with its blend of terrain and climate, offers a thrilling and memorable weekend adventure along the beautiful Kenyan coastline, with the clear blue waters of the Indian ocean providing the perfect way to cool down after a long day in the sun.
ROUTE OPTIONS
The event offers multiple route options, catering for all abilities;
Kids Circuit: 6 km option and ~1.2 / 2.4 km option for different age groups. Bouncy castles and games in the race village!
White Route - 28 km
Orange Route - 55 km
Black Route - 104 km

All routes on the race course will be clearly marked and GPX files shared before the event.

Getting to Vipingo Ridge
The event Race Village is located within Vipingo Ridge at the MotoX circuit. There will be signs and banners from the main Vipingo Ridge gate directing spectators and participants to the race village.
Mombasa to Vipingo Ridge:
Vipingo ridge is located 33km from Mombasa town.
Driving:
Participants and spectators can drive along the B8 highway towards Vipingo for 33km and Turn left at the Vipingo Ridge Sign, towards the entrance of the estate. From there follow the signs directing participants and spectators to the Race Village. A shuttle service by Vipingo Ridge club will be provided for pedestrians from the main gate to the event village.
The road from Mombasa is currently under construction so travellers must budget at least two hours while construction is still ongoing.
Malindi to Vipingo Ridge: The new road from Malindi is completed and is effieient travelling though it is a bit further distance. Public transit options exist from both locations.

There are different travel options from Nairobi to Vipingo for both participants and Spectators. Travel options and service providers for travel via air, road and rail are below:
Nairobi to Vipingo Ridge:
Vipingo ridge is located 517 km from Nairobi City.
Driving:
Participants and spectators can drive along the A109 highway towards Mombasa and take the exit towards Makueni and then head south towards Vipingo. From there turn right towards Vipingo Ridge at the sign. After the entrance, follow the signs directing participants and spectators to the Race Village.
Air:
Flying to Mombasa or Kilifi is possible from JKIA or Wilson Airport with the airlines JamboJet, Kenya Airways, Skyward or Safarilink. From these airports taxi services are available to get to Vipingo Ridge. There is a Skyward flight direct to Vipingo Ridge airport on Fridays and Sundays which would make for an awesome weekend at Vipingo Ridge!
Rail:
Travel by train is available by the Madaraka Express SGR from Nairobi to Mombasa. From Mombasa you will need to take a taxi or bus towards Kilifi/Malindi and alight at the Vipingo stop.

Bike Transfer Services
Bike Transfer Services will be offered by Wells Fargo Courier. Please call Wells Fargo directly for current offers.
All participants opting to use this service must drop-off their bikes of to a Wells Fargo office with sufficient time for Wells Fargo to transport your bicycle to the event.
Participants are advised to indicate ' VIPINGO RIDGE LOOP Safari Race Series' on their packed bikes to ensure delivery to Vipingo Ridge.
Participants must contact Wells Fargo directly on +254 721 905 847 for more information on drop off locations and liability.

TRAVEL OPTIONS
The Vipingo Ridge estate is accessible by air, road and rail from the Nairobi, Malindi and Mombasa.

Vipingo Ridge Airstrip:
This is located inside the Vipingo Ridge estate - see Fly ALS for flight rates and bookings.

Moi International Airport, Mombasa:
Located 46 KM from Vipingo Ridge. Airlines flying to this airport from Nairobi are Kenya Airways, Jambo Jet and Skyward for easy travel with bicycles.

Malindi International Airport, Malindi:
Located 85 KM from Vipingo Ridge. Airlines flying to this airport from Nairobi are Jambo Jet and Safari Link.

Bus:
Buses from Nairobi to Malindi go past the Vipingo town stop.
Taking a bus from Nairobi to Mombasa and then a 45 KM taxi or matatu ride to Vipingo.

Rail:
Taking the Madaraka Express SGR train from the Nairobi Terminal to Mombasa Terminal and a 40 KM matatu or taxi drive up to Vipingo.
​
Road:
Vipingo Ridge is 520 KM from Nairobi, a drive of approximately 8.5 hours.
